Nothing works and I don't know what to do - Anonymous, Alameda, USA
My story - so when I was on 7th graded I use to have one of the most clear skin on my school. But later that year puberty cycle started and all of the pimples came out and I feel so embarrassed because people are looking at it not me. I feel anxious everyday to get out of school so 8th grade my acne got worse and I really hated it. Now I use Oxy spot treatment and it burnt my face and I just don't know what to do. (August 2007)
Accutane has worked for me - Thomas, Nova Scotia, Canada
I am 14 years old. When I was 10 I first started seeing a few pimples on my face. Until the sixth grade, it wasn't serious. Then, that year, I started noticing a few pimples on my neck, back and chest. It was still not very serious, but worse than all the other 12-year-olds. I started junior high that fall, and my facial acne worsened. People would call me every name in the book. I went to see a doctor and he prescribed me a topical medication called Stievamycin. It worked great! It cleared up very nicely by the spring. I still had some on my face, back and chest, but it wasn't nearly as bad. I got a referral to a dermatologist to see if I could make it go away completely. Then, the next winter, things started to get worse. I started getting cysts on my back and shoulders, before it spread to my upper arms. My face also got significantly worse. I haven't been able to get a girlfriend, and I still would hear some insults Then, I finally went to the dermatologist. He asked me to take my shirt off. He took one look at me and said that it would be a good idea to start using Accutane. I did. The first few weeks were awful. My skin went from being oily to very dry, and the acne worsened (which is normal and is a side effect of Accutane). But now, a little over two months later, my face has really cleared up nicely. My body acne is starting to heal, but I still have a long way to go. I recently went back to the dermatologist for a follow-up, and he says everything is going great, and that by the time school starts in two months most of it will have cleared up, so I'm very optimistic.
