I'd rather not take antibiotics - Nancy, Silver Springs, USA

When I was in the 2nd year of college, my face was full of inflamed acne. One of my classmate whose father was a doctor, told me to take antibiotic. But I did not. I have acne on my face and visible scar all of life. I have try every way, but acne continue at my old age. At my old age, one of doctor told me, taking medication rather than applying medication on face is necessary. Someone I know has taking years for her acne. She said she take antibiotics as long it need to control acne outbreak. What are advantages and disadvantages of long tern on antibiotics? I prefer not to take antibiotics to clear my acne, what are the ways?(March 2008)
