Many people who have acne do not use make-up as they feel it will only make their skin condition worse. However, the good news is that make-up applied, with good advice, can help to diminish those blemishes. This will help greatly in raising self esteem and lowering anxiety levels caused by having an acne condition.
It is essential to experiment with various products to find a brand which actually suits your skin. Make-up products can contain chemicals and even natural herbs, flower essences and oils, which could have detrimental effects on your skin, further exacerbating, your acne condition. There are, however, make-up brands out there which are specifically designed for young people. They often contain bacteriacidal properties which help to keep the pores clean. Usually, they come with full instructions on how to apply the make-up. So, as a general rule, look for products which contain more natural ingredients than chemicals, are hypoallergenic, and non comedogenic, to lessen the likelihood of clogging the pores. There are speciality make-up products, for dark scars, made with special colours to match skin tone. These products are usually non irritant, and contain no oil. Scars usually get lighter naturally with time.
A good starting point maybe to go to cosmetic counters at department stores and malls, and try several lines of cosmetics. But, always tell the sales associate that you have an acne condition and are looking for a product to lessen the severity of outbreaks, before trying any of the products. Make-up specialists often hold workshops and seminars on make-up application. They are usually empathetic towards young people with acne, and cater with care, on how to cover up blemishes properly. You may find a good make-up artist whom you can go to on a regular basis.
The first rule in applying your own make-up is to cleanse your face. Wash you face with cold water using a natural soap, once or twice a day. Carefully, pat the skin dry, using a towel which no one else uses. Overwashing is counter productive. Then pat on an astringent. If you are very concerned about those blemishes, try using a cover stick or concealer, which can be gently applied onto your skin, with a light dabbing motion, then blended in using a disposable sponge,to hide the blemished area. Next, apply your foundation with your fingers, in the same way as the concealer. Then continue with your normal make-up routine, by applying a light layer of oil free powder. Lipstick and eye shadow can then be applied, matching the shades to the colour of the clothes you are wearing.
